The integration pairs Sumsub’s reusable identity capabilities with AmericanFortress’s FortressNames™, giving users a verified credential they can choose to share.

Sumsub has partnered with AmericanFortress™, the privacy and post-quantum layer for existing blockchains, to bring verified identity to crypto through FortressID™.

When the AmericanFortress Wallet and SDK launches in production, one Sumsub verification will be included at no additional cost with every paid custom FortressName™. Sumsub’s reusable identity capabilities will verify the user and produce a verified credential; AmericanFortress will link that credential to the name as the user’s FortressID. Every wallet receives a free name at signup. 0G’s .0gm namespace is the first partner namespace, and buyers of a paid name in that namespace will receive the included verification and FortressID.

A FortressName is a human-readable name, such as @alice.0gm, that users can send crypto to instead of a long wallet address. A single FortressName can be used across multiple blockchains, with 13 supported at launch. Holders choose which counterparties can see their FortressID, which supported information to share, and when. Through FortressChat, AmericanFortress’s encrypted messenger, they can share a signed proof with or without sharing the underlying identity document. A proof can confirm a specific blinded fact, such as that a user is over 18 or resides in a named jurisdiction or reveal a drivers license, users’ sole choice.

A verified name will display a badge on the receive screen and in FortressChat. The badge confirms that the holder is verified but does not reveal the details behind the credential. Once a verified user has shared their FortressID with a counterparty, subsequent payments from that name can carry the proof. AmericanFortress keeps no central store of identity data and that identity details are not written to a blockchain. Holding a FortressID does not allow others to work out which addresses the name uses.

“Through FortressID, a single Sumsub verification becomes a decentralized digital credential users can carry with them, choosing who sees it and what it reveals,” said Christian Nunez, Senior Partnerships Manager, North America at Sumsub. “Reusable identity fixes a long-standing issue, where users reverify on new platforms and leave copies of their documents behind each time. Counterparties get assurance that the person on the other side has been properly checked, and the user doesn't have to give up their privacy for it.”

"Crypto made it easy to move money and hard to know who you are dealing with," said Michal Pospieszalski, Founder and CEO of AmericanFortress. "Until now the fix has been to hand your passport to every company that asks. We think your identity should sit with you, attached to the name you get paid at, and shown only to the people you choose. Sumsub gives that identity the standard a bank would accept. We make it yours."
