Founded in 2024, Roxom is building a Bitcoin-denominated securities exchange where equities, derivatives, and other financial instruments are priced, traded, and settled directly in Bitcoin. Headquartered across multiple jurisdictions, including the Cayman Islands, El Salvador, and Seychelles, Roxom operates under a regulated multinational structure.

The company’s mission is to reimagine capital markets by combining the legacy of traditional finance with the speed, transparency, and liquidity of Bitcoin. The company is building infrastructure for companies to raise capital in BTC and for investors to access financial products natively denominated in Bitcoin.

Alongside its exchange infrastructure, Roxom also runs Roxom TV, a 24/7 media division broadcasting from London, New York, and San Francisco. Roxom TV delivers real-time coverage, market analysis, and interviews with industry leaders, offering an independent, Bitcoin-first lens on financial news and macro trends.

The Challenge

As a Bitcoin-denominated trading platform operating across multiple jurisdictions, Roxom needed a verification system that could support international onboarding from the start. This included the ability to handle diverse ID formats, adhere to varying AML standards, and apply flexible risk controls depending on the client’s geography and profile.

From the beginning, verification was seen as a key part of the infrastructure. Roxom needed a system that could keep onboarding secure, compliant, and consistent as the group expanded.

The team’s key requirements included:

  • Fast onboarding for users in different regions
  • Broad document and identity coverage
  • Configurable risk controls
  • AML screening and fraud prevention capabilities
  • Integration with existing compliance systems

Why Sumsub?

When setting up its onboarding and compliance infrastructure, Roxom needed a verification provider that could support both scale and security from day one. The team evaluated several options, including platforms team members had worked with before, but ultimately chose Sumsub based on its global coverage, reliability, and ability to handle both KYC and KYB through a single system.

After extensive comparison, choosing Sumsub was a no‑brainer. Their reputation, technology, and approach to security clearly set them apart. Sumsub offers the widest global document coverage, powerful fraud‑detection capabilities, and a unified interface for both KYC and KYB flows, perfectly matching Roxom’s need for scalability and precision.

For Roxom, broad support for different document types, languages, and regions was essential. The company also needed additional capabilities such as video verification, tampering detection, and real-time behavioral analysis to support secure verification for both individual and corporate clients.

Equally important was how the platform fit into Roxom’s internal workflows. Sumsub’s interface was intuitive for the team, and its technical support proved responsive throughout integration and ongoing operations. The ability to embed the system into Roxom’s compliance infrastructure and adapt it as those processes evolved was a key factor in the decision.

The Solution

The team uses the following solutions:

  • User Verification for individual and Business Verification for business onboarding
  • Liveness checks and Facial Authentication to prevent spoofing and identity fraud
  • Fraud Prevention solution to catch potential risks early
  • Questionnaires to collect necessary information

AML Screening and Ongoing Monitoring have been especially important. Roxom can screen users against sanctions lists, watchlists, PEPs, and adverse media at onboarding, and continue monitoring for changes in risk status over time. For a company operating in the crypto space, this helps ensure compliance is not limited to the moment a user first joins the platform.

AML Screening and Monitoring have been the most impactful features for us. In crypto, regulatory scrutiny is constant, so automatically screening users at onboarding and monitoring risk changes over time is essential. It removes a lot of manual work from the compliance team and gives us confidence that compliance continues as our user base grows.

This setup allows Roxom’s compliance team to focus more on oversight and higher-risk cases rather than routine manual checks, strengthening the company’s compliance foundation as it scales a Bitcoin-denominated financial ecosystem.

Implementation

The team chose SDK integration to ensure a faster deployment and a consistent, user-friendly interface. This method allowed Roxom to retain full control over the front-end experience, while relying on Sumsub’s robust infrastructure to handle verification securely and at scale.

The onboarding process was well structured from the start, allowing both teams to align on objectives and execution. Sumsub provided dedicated technical and compliance support throughout the process, ensuring every integration step met Roxom’s high security standards. It felt like a true collaboration: efficient, transparent, and built to support our global growth.

With clear documentation and a responsive technical support team, Roxom’s engineers were able to connect systems quickly without disrupting ongoing operations. Challenges, primarily related to localization and jurisdiction-specific compliance requirements, were resolved collaboratively and with minimal delay. The rollout mirrored Roxom’s own standards: secure by design, thoroughly tested, and executed with precision.

The Results

Since implementing Sumsub, Roxom has built a verification workflow that is ready to support onboarding at scale across multiple jurisdictions. The platform now verifies users in less than a second, with an approval rate of almost 90%, while 85% of the workflow is automated.

With Sumsub in place, Roxom has been able to standardize key workflows, align with regulatory requirements, and build the technical foundation needed to support future growth.

Future plans

Roxom is preparing to expand into new jurisdictions and introduce Bitcoin-settled financial products aimed at bridging traditional capital markets with the Bitcoin economy. One of the next steps will be launching equity offerings, introducing instruments priced and settled in Bitcoin.
