New solution retrieves identity data and document images from local databases, improving the process of compliance.
Verifying a player’s identity without requiring them manually upload their document. This is the purpose of Sumsub’s new solution for online betting platforms operating in Brazil. Through local partnerships, the solution retrieves identity data and a copy of the document from local databases, helping operators comply with Brazilian regulatory requirements while reducing the number of onboarding steps.
Regulations applicable to the sector require operators to identify bettors and store their information and documents. While these controls are essential to market security, requesting document uploads during onboarding can make the process more time-consuming and increase abandonment rates.
With the new solution, players provide their CPF number and complete a liveness check using a selfie. The technology then retrieves their identity data and document image, verifies that the record matches the user and performs additional checks to confirm their identity.
However, compliance officers are equally focused on auditability and evidence of compliance, not just user conversion. Even though the entire process takes place without requiring users to locate, photograph and manually upload their documents, regulatory compliance remains intact. The audit trail is preserved, as the results of the analyses — including previously stored IDs and biometric evidence — are securely maintained in the dashboard for compliance records. At the same time, all data retrieval is fully aligned with LGPD requirements and depends on explicit user consent.
“Entering a regulated market requires rigorous verification processes, but this does not mean that the player experience needs to be complex. Our solution allows operators to obtain the information and documents required to strictly comply with Brazilian regulations while providing users with a smoother onboarding experience,” says Kris Galloway, Sumsub’s iGaming Product Evangelist.
The new solution is primarily designed for major operators entering Brazil, international companies expanding across Latin America and platforms already operating in the country that are looking to reduce onboarding friction.
From local verification to global fraud prevention
Retrieving identity data is only one stage of the verification process. Integrated into Sumsub’s platform, the new solution can be combined with fraud prevention tools that analyze the device being used, identify connections between different registration attempts and detect potential identity manipulation.
Available capabilities include Device Intelligence, Fraud Networks and deepfake detection, as well as transaction monitoring, case management and Summy, Sumsub’s AI assistant for compliance and fraud prevention. Operators can also monitor users throughout their entire journey, from initial onboarding to the continuous analysis of suspicious behavior and transactions.
Data or documents may appear legitimate when analyzed in isolation but reveal risk indicators when cross-referenced with the device, biometrics, user behavior or other accounts on the platform. This cross-referencing makes it possible to detect fraud attempts that could go unnoticed in an isolated verification.
The solution also includes SDKs and dashboards localized for the Brazilian market, as well as workflows that can be adapted to each company’s risk profile and operational requirements. This allows global operators to deliver an experience tailored to local users while centralizing verification, monitoring and investigation processes within a single infrastructure.
“Simply having access to the correct data is not enough. Operators need to confirm that the data belongs to the person completing the registration and analyze the risk indicators surrounding that identity. By bringing together onboarding, verification, monitoring and fraud prevention, we provide operators with a more comprehensive view of each user,” adds Galloway.
