Sumsub today announced its Liveness solution has been found compliant with Level 3 of iBeta’s Presentation Attack Detection (PAD) testing under the ISO/IEC 30107-3 standard. Level 3 is the most rigorous tier in iBeta's testing framework, assessing biometric systems against sophisticated spoofing techniques.
iBeta Quality Assurance is an independent, NIST-accredited testing laboratory. During the Level 3 evaluation, testers deployed 900 presentation attacks across Android and iOS platforms. These attacks utilized advanced methods, with testers granted extensive preparation time and access to equipment such as hyper-realistic facial masks. Sumsub Liveness successfully defended against all spoofing attempts, recording a 0% Attack Presentation Classification Error Rate (APCER) with none of the attacks obtaining a liveness classification.
The stakes for digital identity verification are escalating as artificial intelligence (AI) democratizes advanced fraud techniques. According to the Sumsub Identity Fraud Report 2025-2026, deepfake fraud accounted for 11% of all fraud globally in 2025. Level 3 compliance provides independent validation that Sumsub's AI-powered trust infrastructure can withstand expert-level biometric presentation attacks in rigorous laboratory conditions. This independent testing helps ensure that legitimate users can pass checks seamlessly while malicious actors are kept at bay.
"In this industry, standing still is the same as falling behind. The threat doesn't pause while you figure out your response," said Vyacheslav Zholudev, CTO and Co-Founder of Sumsub. "You have to move faster than the people trying to break your systems. Our mission is to build a digital world that is safe, inclusive, and accessible, and achieving iBeta Level 3 compliance reflects our commitment to providing robust fraud prevention technology."
This milestone follows Sumsub's progressive completion of all three iBeta PAD testing levels:
- 2021 (Level 1): Sumsub Liveness recorded 0% APCER against 1,500 presentation attacks.
- February 2025 (Level 1 Retest): An updated implementation recorded 0% APCER against 1,530 presentation attacks.
- March 2025 (Level 2): Sumsub progressed to Level 2, recording 0% APCER across 1,500 presentation attacks with more sophisticated attack artifacts.
- September 2026 (Level 3): Sumsub Liveness recorded 0% APCER on Android and iOS across 900 high-level presentation attacks.
