The new solution enables Colombian citizens to verify their identity using only their NUIP and a selfie, supporting frictionless onboarding and SAGRILAFT-aligned customer due diligence.
Sumsub today announced the launch of its document-free identity verification solution for Colombia, enabling businesses to verify Colombian citizens using their NUIP (Número Único de Identificación Personal) and a selfie.
The solution uses pre-verified identity records from Colombia’s National Traffic Registry (RUNT) and National Civil Registry (RNEC). Users enter their NUIP in the Sumsub flow and complete an active Liveness check. Sumsub then retrieves the relevant identity profile and matches it against the selfie, cross-checking key data points to establish a high-confidence identity match — without requiring users to upload an identity document.
The solution offers broad coverage in Colombia, reaching 100% of driver's license holders and registered vehicle owners, representing more than 60% of the country's adult population, according to Sumsub's coverage analysis. Colombia has a highly digitized identity environment: according to the World Bank's ID4D database, more than 99% of the country's population has an official proof of identity, underscoring the importance of building digital services around trusted identity infrastructure.
For regulated businesses, the solution can support customer identification and due diligence processes under SAGRILAFT requirements established by Colombia's Superintendencia de Sociedades. It returns verified identity attributes including full name, date of birth, gender, and national ID card status. It can also support enhanced due diligence processes where applicable, including for virtual asset service providers subject to relevant regulatory requirements.
“Colombia has one of the strongest opportunities in Latin America to combine trusted identity infrastructure with a truly frictionless digital onboarding experience,” said Camilo Diaz Granados, Business Development Manager for Colombia at Sumsub. “By allowing users to verify themselves with just a NUIP and a selfie, businesses can remove document-upload friction while maintaining strong identity assurance and supporting their compliance obligations. We’re excited to make this capability available to Colombian businesses and help them onboard more legitimate customers with confidence.”
The solution requires the applicant to hold a valid NUIP and to be registered in RUNT; otherwise, records cannot be retrieved.
Verify Colombian identities in seconds — just a NUIP and a selfie, backed by RUNT and RNEC data.
