Founded in 2015, Advapay is a fintech software and consulting company that helps regulated financial institutions and fintech businesses launch and operate payment, e-money, digital asset, and other financial services.

Its offering combines the Advapay Core Banking Platform with fintech consulting and implementation expertise, supporting companies from launch through ongoing operations.

Today, Advapay has offices in Amsterdam, London, Tallinn, Belgrade, Toronto, Madrid, and Warsaw. Its teams have supported more than 150 fintech projects, with approximately 50 active fintech clients currently using the Advapay Core Banking Platform.

The Challenge

Over the years, both the scale and complexity of Advapay’s client implementations have grown significantly. Its clients operate across multiple jurisdictions and licence types, with different products, customer groups, and risk profiles.

This means there is rarely a one-size-fits-all onboarding process. Requirements can vary across document checks, sanctions and PEP screening, risk criteria, escalation procedures, and ongoing monitoring. Clients also need to verify both individuals and businesses, including directors and beneficial owners, while keeping onboarding straightforward for legitimate customers.

For Advapay, the challenge is to maintain one reliable technical integration while giving each client the flexibility to configure compliance processes around its own regulatory requirements and risk appetite.

Scalability adds another layer. As clients grow, enter new markets, and process higher volumes, relying on manual verification becomes increasingly costly and difficult to manage.

The Solution

Advapay maintains a single technical integration with Sumsub that supports different compliance setups across its client base. Depending on their business model, subscription, and regulatory requirements, clients can use:

  • User Verification
  • Business Verification
  • Liveness and Deepfake Detection
  • Transaction Monitoring
  • Crypto Transaction Monitoring

Sumsub allows us to combine a consistent technical integration with a client-specific compliance model. Each Advapay client can configure the workflows required by its licence, markets, customers and risk profile without us having to rebuild the underlying integration for every implementation.

Verification and monitoring workflows can be configured with different onboarding levels, document requirements, screening rules, risk indicators, and review paths. Straightforward cases can move through verification automatically, while higher-risk or exceptional cases can be directed to the client’s compliance team for further review.

For Advapay, the main benefit is that these requirements can be adapted without rebuilding the underlying integration each time a client’s needs change. This allows the company to support different compliance models while keeping the technical setup consistent.

The Partnership

Advapay and Sumsub have worked together since 2020. What began as a technical integration for automated KYC, KYB, and AML has developed into an ongoing partnership covering new client implementations, client-specific requirements, and continued improvements to the integration.

Advapay has been a trusted Sumsub partner for many years, both through the integration of our compliance solutions and the relationship we’ve built around new client opportunities. We especially value their trust in recommending Sumsub to their clients and look forward to growing our partnership together.

An important part of the partnership today is Sumsub’s integration into the Advapay demonstration environment. Prospective clients can see how verification and compliance processes work alongside the Core Banking Platform before implementation, allowing their product, compliance, and technical teams to define requirements and identify configuration needs earlier.

The Results

During the original implementation, Advapay recorded a 290x improvement in onboarding speed and a 95% reduction in manual work.

Our partnership with Sumsub has evolved significantly since the initial integration in 2020. Today, instead of coordinating several disconnected integrations, our clients can implement verification, monitoring, and core banking functionality through a more unified technology environment.

Today, the existing integration continues to create operational and economic benefits for Advapay clients:

  • Reduce implementation time by configuring an existing integration rather than building one from scratch
  • Reduce manual compliance work by focusing teams on cases that require additional review
  • Scale customer volumes more efficiently without proportionally increasing compliance headcount
  • Avoid the cost and complexity of building and maintaining multiple separate compliance integrations
  • Launch and expand more easily as onboarding and compliance requirements change

The demonstration environment also supports the sales and scoping process by allowing prospective clients to work through their proposed customer journey before implementation. This can help surface workflow and configuration requirements earlier and give different teams a clearer understanding of the intended setup.

Future plans

Advapay plans to continue expanding its software and consulting activities across regulated fintech markets in Europe, North America, the Middle East, and selected Asia-Pacific markets, while supporting more businesses developing crypto-fiat, digital asset, and wallet-based services.

Alongside this growth, the team will continue developing the Advapay Core Banking Platform and its demonstration environment, giving prospective clients a broader view of how banking, payments, onboarding, compliance, and operational processes work together before implementation.

The next step in the Sumsub partnership is to deepen the existing integration, aiming to give operators clearer information when handling exceptional cases and reduce the need to switch between systems.

Advapay will also continue evaluating additional Sumsub capabilities as new client requirements, markets, and regulatory needs emerge.
