An innovative document-free identity verification solution simplifies onboarding for over 4 million UK residents holding an eVisa, ensuring secure, compliant, and efficient verification.
Sumsub has launched its UK Non-Doc Identity Verification (eVisa) solution. This document-free onboarding tool allows businesses to securely verify the identities of UK residents with an eVisa.
This solution streamlines the verification process by using the UK Home Office’s electronic visa records to verify the identity of individuals in the UK without the need for physical documentation. This comes at a key moment as, according to Sumsub’s 2024 Identity Fraud Report, AI-driven deepfake fraud has increased fourfold globally, with the UK seeing a 118% surge – reaffirming the urgency for more secure verification methods. In particular, fake ID documents made up 50% of all fraud cases last year, highlighting the urgent need to move toward seamless and fully compliant document-free solutions.
As part of the UK government’s initiative to create a digital border system, eVisa records will replace physical immigration documents such as Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs), Biometric Residence Cards (BRCs), and visa vignettes from June 1, 2025. Sumsub’s solution is fully aligned with this shift – leveraging a secure share code generated by the user to access real-time data from the UK Home Office, along with biometric data obtained securely via a Liveness Check.
The UK Non-Doc Identity Verification (eVisa) solution is designed to meet the needs of regulated sectors such as financial services, gambling operators, legal professionals, and more, who require secure and compliant user verification. With over 4 million UK residents holding eVisas, businesses face the challenge of verifying identities without relying on physical documents. Sumsub’s solution mitigates this by allowing users to verify their identity using a share code, date of birth, and biometric data, all while complying with UK Money Laundering Regulations (MLR 2017), Gambling Commission License Conditions, and Joint Money Laundering Steering Group (JMLSG) guidelines.
“Sumsub is at the forefront of providing innovative solutions that not only simplify the verification process but also ensure compliance with evolving regulations,” said Andrew Novoselsky, Chief Product Officer at Sumsub. “We are making it easier for businesses to onboard UK residents without relying on physical documents. In fact, Non-Doc checks rose by 338% on our platform in 2024, showing a clear demand for secure, document-free solutions. This launch represents a major step toward reducing fraud while ensuring a frictionless experience for users.”
