Statement on Website Impersonation and Phishing in the U.S.

Sumsub has recently become aware of fraudulent activity involving third parties impersonating its website and services.

These actors are using lookalike domains and interfaces (e.g. variations such as “Sumsuc”) to mimic Sumsub’s brand and mislead individuals into believing they are interacting with a legitimate verification flow. Sumsub would like to make clear that these fraudulent websites and associated activity have no connection whatsoever to the company.

Such schemes typically redirect users to fake webpages designed to resemble trusted environments, where they are prompted to submit personal information such as identity credentials and, in some cases, payment details. This is a form of phishing intended to facilitate identity theft and financial fraud.

In response, Sumsub has taken proactive steps to address this activity and has initiated proceedings under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to secure the removal of the fraudulent domain. The company continues to monitor the situation and take appropriate action where necessary.

This activity is consistent with a broader rise in increasingly sophisticated fraud tactics. These include the impersonation of technology providers and the misuse of references to regulatory or government bodies to create a false sense of urgency and legitimacy. Such schemes are often part of “Scam-as-a-Service” operations, where coordinated tools and tactics are used to scale attacks.

Sumsub strongly encourages individuals and organisations to remain vigilant. Users should carefully verify website URLs, avoid engaging with unsolicited messages, and confirm any requests for information directly through official and trusted channels.

Sumsub remains committed to protecting users and will continue to take steps to strengthen safeguards against misuse of its brand and services.
