Thailand Introduces New Crypto Travel Rule Compliance Requirements
Licensed digital asset business operators in Thailand have until February 27, 2027, to introduce new checks identifying the parties behind digital asset transfers.

Licensed digital asset business operators in Thailand have until February 27, 2027, to introduce new checks identifying the parties behind digital asset transfers, including transactions involving self-custodial wallets.
Under new regulations issued by the Thai Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), digital asset operators must “establish policies and operating procedures for managing risks related to the transfer and receipt of digital assets.”
Operators will be required to collect information about customers and their counterparties, conduct counterparty due diligence, and check the credentials of other virtual asset service providers and intermediaries.
Additional checks apply when funds move between regulated platforms and self-hosted wallets. In these cases, operators must verify who owns or controls the wallet concerned. Unlike custodial wallets operated by exchanges or other service providers, self-custodial wallets allow users to control their crypto directly.
Businesses initiating a transfer must send information about both the originator and beneficiary to the receiving service provider. Information accompanying digital asset transactions must also be stored for at least five years in a format that allows regulators to examine it promptly.
The framework was developed by the SEC in coordination with Thailand’s Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO). It will operate as an interim measure while AMLO prepares new regulations under the country’s Anti-Money Laundering Act.
SEC Secretary-General Pornanong Budsaratragoon said:
We are confident that the introduction of the Travel Rule for Digital Assets will enhance the capability to combat technology-related crimes and reduce the risk of DA operators being used for money laundering and terrorist financing. The requirements … strengthen anti-money laundering measures in line with international standards (FATF), thereby enhancing confidence in Thailand’s digital asset ecosystem and supporting greater connectivity with international markets over the long term.
