Roblox, the world’s largest online gaming platform and game creation system, has introduced a new AI-powered feature that automatically rewrites inappropriate language in chat messages in real time. The company says this is to make conversations both more respectful and more readable during gameplay.

Roblox’s chat filters have traditionally replaced inappropriate messages with strings of “####” hash symbols, which risks making conversations difficult to follow. Under the new system, flagged messages are instead rephrased using AI, so they remain understandable but comply with the platform’s community standards.

For example, a message such as “Hurry TF up!” might previously have been displayed as ####. With the new tool, it could instead appear as “Hurry up!” and allow players to continue communicating without disruption.

Roblox said the feature, called real-time chat rephrasing, is designed to guide users toward appropriate language while maintaining the flow of in-game communication.

Rajiv Bhatia, Roblox Vice President of User and Discovery Product, said:

Chat is central to how people connect, coordinate, and play on Roblox. Real-time rephrasing helps keep gameplay and conversations on track while guiding language toward what’s appropriate. This approach reduces friction in chat while maintaining the standards that help keep our community civil.

This update builds on moderation tools Roblox introduced in May 2025, including warnings that alert users when a message may violate platform rules and prompt them to reconsider their future language. In tests last year, these notifications helped reduce filtered chat messages by 5% and reduced the consequences of abuse reports by 6%.

Users whose messages are repeatedly flagged, however, can still face penalties. The company is also upgrading its filtering systems to detect violations of its standards, including the use of altered spellings or symbols to bypass profanity filters. These filtering systems have led to a twentyfold reduction in false negatives for sharing or soliciting personal information.

The feature is currently available only in chats between age-verified users in similar age groups and supports all languages available through Roblox’s automatic translation tools.
