Poland has adopted a new package of laws to restrict minors’ access to harmful online content, introduce stricter age verification requirements for adult websites, and recommend using the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet) for privacy-preserving age checks.
The legislation does not require websites to use a specific technical solution. However, government officials have explicitly pointed providers toward age verification services built into the future EUDI Wallet ecosystem, arguing that users should be able to prove they are old enough without revealing additional personal information.
According to the Polish government, the country plans to introduce anonymous age verification services by the end of 2026 through its national digital identity infrastructure. Officials have previously suggested these capabilities could eventually be integrated into Poland’s mObywatel digital identity application, which already has widespread adoption across the country.
The new legislation arrives as European policymakers increasingly position digital identity wallets as a foundation for age assurance. Earlier this year, the European Commission announced that its age verification solution had reached technical readiness and could be adopted by member states and service providers ahead of broader EUDI Wallet rollout plans.
The package approved by the Polish government goes beyond age verification requirements. It also includes measures intended to accelerate the removal of illegal online content and introduces restrictions on smartphone use in primary schools as part of broader child online safety efforts.
