Spencer Hanlon

Spencer Hanlon is the Chief Operations Officer at Nium, where he leads the company’s day-to-day operations and drives its next phase of global growth. Based in London, he oversees key functions including client onboarding, compliance, and long-term strategic execution - ensuring Nium scales efficiently while maintaining its reputation as a leader in embedded fintech. Spencer played a pivotal role in building Nium’s travel business, transforming it from a regional offering into one of the world’s largest virtual card issuers. He now works across teams and regions to embed operational excellence and deliver seamless, real-time financial infrastructure for global businesses. Before joining Nium, Spencer held a series of senior leadership roles at British Airways and Lufthansa’s AirPlus International, where he spent nearly two decades leading global teams across sales, marketing, operations, and customer service. He rose to become Managing Director and Chief Operations Officer of AirPlus International GmbH, based at its Frankfurt headquarters. He later served as Chairman of Ixaris Group, steering the company through its acquisition by Nium. Spencer holds a bachelor’s degree in Geography from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne. He is a qualified CIMA Management Accountant and a certified GTD (Getting Things Done) Coach. Having lived and worked across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, Spencer brings a truly global lens to his operational leadership.
