Koen Ono

Koen Ono is a compliance and financial crime specialist with a dual background in diplomacy and financial services. He began his career as a professional diplomat at Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, serving for around a decade—including seven years in Indonesia—in roles spanning crisis management, counterterrorism, corporate protection, disaster response, and legislative policymaking. After moving to the private sector, he worked in investment and business compliance in the asset management industry before specializing in crypto and digital assets starting in 2018. Koen has since led legal and compliance functions for crypto-asset service providers, covering licensing, governance, regulatory liaison, AML/CFT frameworks, M&A, and DeFi-related projects. Through Pisces Advisory, he supports major financial groups with Web3 strategies and advises start-ups on stablecoin and payment businesses. He is also a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS).
