Industry

FASTCUP, a gaming matchmaking platform, noticed that some of their users create multiple accounts to win more prizes. Aiming at ensuring fair play, FASTCUP set out on a journey of finding a KYC provider that could filter out dishonest players and provide the best security for other users.

The Challenge

When FASTCUP started organizing gaming leagues for CS 1.6 and CS: GO, they realized that users create multiple accounts to take up more places in the leagues and win more prizes. It was vital to stop these unfair players, since people compete for real money in both leagues. Thus, FASTCUP decided to implement customer verification to ensure that their users are only able to create a single account.

The platform also understood that verification would create a safer environment for all players, since verified users value their accounts more and do not want to lose them, so they are less likely to cheat.

“When we started our leagues, we faced a problem where some users would create multiple accounts. As a result, they took up more places and stole prizes from other players. So, we needed to find a way to filter out cheaters to ensure fair play.”

Why Sumsub?

FASTCUP conducted market research and discovered that their competitors employ Sumsub for customer verification. The platform contacted the provider and decided that it satisfies their three main criteria:
FASTCUP

Close communication with the provider

FASTCUP wanted to have a thorough discussion with the provider’s management in addition to their technical and legal teams to ensure the best integration of the KYC solution into their system.
“On our platform, we have many underage players as well as players from regions that are difficult to work with. That’s why it was crucial for us to have direct contact with the provider and discuss all the nuances. We also wanted to have an opportunity to talk over the whole integration process and modify some onboarding steps.” — Ruslan Buhryn

The ability to check liveness

FASTCUP knew that it is relatively easy to fake a selfie, so they decided to implement liveness verification to ensure better protection for their platform and players. FASTCUP found Sumsub’s liveness solution both reliable and user-friendly. The solution verifies that the user, who is undergoing the check, is really who they claim they are.
FASTCUP

Secure data protection

As FASTCUP works with users’ data, they needed a KYC provider with a comprehensive and solid data storing system. Sumsub’s experience in working with fintech proved the provider’s reliability.

The Solution

After working with Sumsub for a while, FASTCUP managed to filter out unfair players.
FASTCUP
Already during the first month after the solution’s implementation, the number of multiple accounts dropped off by 25% for CS 1.6 and by 50% for CS: GO. In the time following, FASTCUP ensured that almost all of their users had only one account.

“When we implemented Sumsub’s onboarding solution, the number of unique user accounts has grown, and the number of multiple accounts fell to almost zero.”

Thanks to liveness detection, which is more sophisticated than ordinary selfie checks, FASTCUP can rest assured that their users are genuine individuals and not just several people with an endless number of accounts.

In the future, FASTCUP plans to onboard players younger than 16 years of age to expand their customer network. With the help of Sumsub’s technical and legal teams, the platform will be able to build the onboarding process in a secure and legitimate way.
